Controlling light
Without light we don't have a photograph. With great light we can get a great photograph. With cruddy light we nearly always have a cruddy photograph. So part of successful photography is being able to use and control the light at hand or being able to put light where it's needed. Or even knowing when the light's not right for shooting.
So this section of lessons is all about controlling light or getting the right exposure in tricky situations. Either way, it's about getting the right light in the right places in your photographs.
If you're just starting out, or you need a bit of a refresher on exposure, take a look at my Back to Basics series in the Articles page. For an even more thorough discussion, you might want to check out Michael Frye's excellent e-book on exposure for outdoor photographers.
