News from Rod Barbee Photography - January 2016

Greetings All,

Happy New Year everybody!

And it is pretty happy here in the Pacific Northwest right about now because our Seahawks, for the fourth year in a row, find themselves in the playoffs. And they have just ended their regular season by pounding the division champion Arizona Cardinals.

Ah. Life is good.

Palouse photo guide

I first photographed Washington's Palouse region more than 20 years ago and I've been leading workshops there for something like ten or twelve years. One loses track of these things.
So I thought I'd finally throw together a quick guide to some of my favorite locations. It's over on my blog. You should take a look.

And I've got plans to add a few other quickies like the Palouse guide. Some locations I'm thinking of are Newport on the Oregon coast, Zion National Park, Mt. Rainier, and Olympic.

Lesson Learned

I recently came across the book The Basic Beginner's Guide to Photography, Light and Exposure co-written by Scott Bourne and Richard Harrington. It's available on iTunes as an iBook.
When looking at the preview in iTunes I recognized something familiar so I bought the book. It's only $0.99.
I thought that the treatment of basic exposure, camera controls, and metering presented in the book was very good. I would think that since I actually wrote most of it.

Read the rest on my blog...

New Year reminder

Something I nearly always forget to do until about April or May, is to create a new Lightroom metadata preset for the new copyright year.
It's really easy to do. In Lightroom's Library module, click on the Metadata menu item and choose Edit Metadata Presets. Fill out the appropriate fields for your copyright and contact information and any Rights Usage Terms you'd like to include.
When done, click on the Preset drop-down at the top of the box and chose "Save Current Settings as New Preset..." Give it a name and you're done.
When importing new pictures, choose this metadata template. In the right hand panel of the Import screen under Apply During Import, choose your new copyright metadata template using the "Metadata" drop-down.

Bailey had a good holiday

As you can see here, Bailey had a good holiday. She was plumb tuckered out after her new toys and a long walk in the woods with cousin Opie.

A couple of days later we took a walk in the frost. Bailey really likes romping in the cold weather. So here we are on a sunny and frosty morning. She was really hoping for snow, but so far we've missed out.

Bailey is just about the cutest thing ever, right?

Something else cute

And finally, just to be extra indulgent, here I am holding my 7-week old granddaughter Lydia. (She's the something else cute.)

I hope you all had a great holiday and hope to see you in the coming year!
